My reasons for wanting to study
architecture at MSA vary but first and foremost would be my interest for
architectural design and having the opportunity to explore the profession
further. Also the advantage of studying architect in an architecturally rich
city such as Manchester which MSA offers was a main reason for me selecting
your university in my application.
Another reason for applying at
MSA is the advantage of studying close to home which after discussing it with
lecturers and family who have studied at home has shown me that I will have more
studying time and that I can take projects home and vice versa.
The opportunity of accessing facilities
at both Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester
proves a great advantage for my studies. I found the diversity of facilities would
mean my work would greatly prosper from studios, computer, workshop, material,
libraries, special collections, photography and video facilities.
Other reasons for choosing to
apply at the Manchester school of architecture would be the year round events
on offer. Also being able to get the opinion of both students and lecturers on
MSA from your website backed up my reasons for applying. Recently we visited a
Carillion construction site in Manchester, we got the opportunity to speak to
many construction professionals and have a presentation on the structure. The
project is being constructed adjacent to St. Peters square in Manchester. An
interesting aspect of the design was how the Architect has presented the illusion
of the structure being sectional reducing the height impact the structure has
on the area and surrounding buildings.
An architect I have taken an
interest in is Jacque Fresco who works alongside other industry professionals
to create large scale projects. There are several reasons why I like Jacque
Fresco’s work some of which are its diversity, environmental preservation
approach, socio-economic advancements and its global aspirations. One
particular project of Jacque Fresco that intrigued me was the Venus project,
other than the projects ethos and vision a main reason for my interest would
have to be the magnitude and immensely detailed models produced for the project
and I would defiantly recommend researching them.
A building that I would like to
visit would be the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. I first came across
the Walt Disney Concert Hall in a film called “The Soloist”. Because of its dramatic
façade and my lack of musical knowledge I assumed it was produced using CGI but
I decided to research it and find it to be a real building. Even before
researching Frank Gehry’s design I knew it had to be concert related because in
my opinion the buildings sections portray orchestra’s different instruments.
